Workshops & Classes

Sam spent 6 years in professional workforce development for statewide and national training institutes, including dedicated time as part of a university training and evaluation team.  She has also worked in volunteer communities, working with passionate learners and teachers. She continues to learn, teach, and facilitate learning in various communities.

The following indicate a variety of workshops Sam has taught or designed to be taught by others.  Sam enjoys customizing workshops for unique audiences.

Topics of focus include:

Sexual health * health education * research * data design * data dissemination * leading from where you are * ethics and volunteerism * biology of emotions * intersectional power dynamics * allyship & anti-racism  * consent culture

Certified trainer in:

*Strategic Sharing: using lived experience and personal narrative to influence policymakers and other audiences

*Just in Time Trainer: public health model for rapid onsite training of volunteers in disaster scenarios

*Ansell-Casey Life Skills Trainer: developmental approaches to teaching the skills for navigating independent adult living, including assessment and trainer of trainers

In addition to traditional adult education approaches, Sam's teaching style is influenced by community health engagement models, unconference principles, theater improv, and the possibilities and limits of current technologies.
